What is Perlane®

What is it?

Perlane is a dermal filler injected into the skin on the face to treat wrinkles and facial depressions, and may be used on modest to severe wrinkling and facial lines. Perlane consists of hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal clear gel and contains no animal proteins. It may be used to restore the loss of volume and fullness of skin due to aging and sun damage. Manufactured and marketed by Medicis Aesthetics, makers of Restylane, often Perlane is used in conjunction with Restylane.

What does it treat?

Perlane is used to treat wrinkles and creases on the face and to improve the volume and size of lips. Skin volume loss due to skin sagging and sun damage may also be treated with Perlane alone, or in conjunction with Restylane injections.

Treatment

As with all dermal fillers, Perlane is injected into the skin utilizing a needle. Topical aesthetic may be applied by your doctor before the treatment session. Discuss with your doctor if pain is a concern for your prior to your injections.

Perlane works by pushing up the skin wrinkles and sagging volume from within your skin. The hyaluronic acid which forms Perlane is a naturally occurring substance within the body. It binds with water within the skin to plump up the skin and increase volume and smoothness. Over time these bonds will break down and the substance will disappear.

How long does it last?

As with any dermal filler, longevity of Perlane® will vary based on the patient, however average results last roughly 6 months.
