What are Cosmoderm & CosmoPlast?
Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast are dermal fillers made from highly purified human collagen. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein which makes up over 80% of our skin. These dermal fillers are injected into the collagen layer beneath the surface of the skin to increase the skin's volume and treat wrinkles and fine lines. As skin is subjected to sun damage and age, the natural collagen in our skin is damaged and our skin loses some of its youthful appearance. Dermal fillers like Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast are meant to augment this natural collagen and improve the smoothness of the skin.
Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast can be utilized by your doctor to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. In my opinion Cosmoderm is appropriate for superficial fine lines, such as the upper or lower lip areas.
Cosmoplast is well suited for deeper wrinkles. Both contain lidocaine, an anesthetic, which numbs the skin at the site of injection.
Allergy Testing not Required
Allergy skin testing is not required prior to receiving treatment with Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast. People with lidocaine allergies should not be treated with Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast.
When will I see results?
Results are immediate.
How long do the results last?
Generally the results will be seen for two to three months. To maintain the original results from the treatment, touch-up treatments may be necessary.
Side Effects
There may be temporary swelling or redness for one to three days. As with most injectables, bruising may also occur which can last up to a week. Any side effects which persist should be brought to your physician's attention.
People with a history of serious allergic (anaphylactic) reactions or a known allergy to lidocaine (a local anesthetic) should not use either Cosmoderm or Cosmoplast.
